Understanding grade divisions (I–IV and 0)
What each NECTA division means, how they are calculated, and how to read the division chart on the dashboard.
NECTA assigns each student a division based on their total grade points across their best subjects. Lower points mean a better division.
Division meanings
- Division I — excellent performance, university-eligible
- Division II — very good performance
- Division III — satisfactory performance
- Division IV — minimum pass, may not qualify for certain programmes
- Division 0 — fail; student did not meet minimum requirements
Dashboard division chart
The Division Distribution bar chart on the dashboard shows how many students fall into each division for the selected term. Use it to identify if a large number of students are in Division 0, which may indicate systemic issues with specific subjects.
For ACSEE, division thresholds are based on 3 principal subjects only. Subsidiary subject results do not affect division placement.
